Earthquake and Tsunami Research Division

Research regarding real time earthquake and tsunami prediction technology, and technology to enhance the functionality of long-term evaluation of earthquake occurrence.

The Earthquake and Tsunami Research Division analyses observation data from the foundational earthquake and tsunami observation network and carries out numerical simulations and indoor experiments. Through these, the center aims to contribute to mitigating earthquake and tsunami disasters by promoting R&D for new realtime prediction technologies for earthquakes and tsunami, and for enhancing the functionality of long-term evaluation of earthquake occurrence.

  • Real-time seismic motion prediction technology and earthquake damage estimation technology.
  • Tsunami prediction technology.
  • Increasingly sophisticated long-term evaluation of earthquake occurrence.
