Volcano Disaster Resilience Research Division

Research regarding multifaceted assessment of volcanic activity.

Utilizing the 55 observation points at 16 volcanos throughout Japan as well as various kinds of remote sensing technology, The Volcano Disaster Resilience Research Division promotes R&D for predicting and understanding the mechanisms of volcano disasters. In addition, this division strengthens linkakges with universities and research institutes to implement resarch regarding optimal risk communication for volcano disasters. Through these activities, we aim to mitigate damage caused by volcano disasters and to realize a society that can exist alongside volcanos.

  • Research for understanding volcanic phenomena/disaster mechanisms using wide-ranging observation data.
  • Research and development for volcano remote sensing technology.
  • Modelling resarch for evaluating potential eruption/disaster.
  • Research regarding risk communication to mitigate volcano disasters.
