NIED and NCDR Renew Memorandum of Cooperation to Enhance Collaboration in Disaster Risk Reduction
On April 21, 2025, the signing ceremony for the renewal of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) and the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR), Taiwan, was held at the NIED headquarters in Tsukuba (3-1 Tennodai, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan). NIED President TAKARA Kaoru and NCDR Director Hongey Chen attended the ceremony and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening collaboration in disaster risk reduction.
Since the original signing of the MoC in 2020, NIED and NCDR have developed a close partnership through joint research on earthquakes, storm, flood and landslide disasters, climate-related risks, post-disaster field surveys, and capacity-building initiatives. The renewed MoC provides a framework to deepen scientific cooperation and enhance the effective use of disaster risk reduction technologies.
Building on this foundation, NIED and NCDR will continue to share expertise and coordinate efforts to contribute to global resilience, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. Through this renewed partnership, both institutions aim to promote innovative approaches and international collaboration in the face of increasing disaster risks.
