Cooperative Research using the Cryospheric Environment Simulator (CES)
Shinjo Branch of Snow and Ice Studies is conducting research studies not only initiative studies but cooperative studies with domestic or foreign research organizations. Research topics include various fields from disaster prevention, avalanche and drifting snow, to snow and ice properties of the Arctic, snow albedo and the sea ice formation.
Snapshot of Experiments
-
Drifting snow around the scaled models of snow fence and highway.
-
Creep test of snow cover on the inclined table.
-
Spectral albedo measurement of artificial fresh snow.
-
Simulation of snow accretion on the real train pantograph.
-
Experiment of slush flow in the large cold room.
-
Visualized drifting snow around the model snow fence with a laser light sheet.
-
Experiment on growth of ice stalagmites in the large cold room.
