Department of Transdisciplinary Research in Disaster Risk Reduction

Department of Transdisciplinary Research in Disaster Risk Reduction takes a comprehensive view of the social problems facing Japan, such as super-aging population, declining birthrate, population decline, and information sophistication and security, and conducts transdisciplinary research on effective measures for prevention, emergency response, and recovery/reconstruction of various disasters that threaten human existence.
Research Division for Disaster Information and Intelligence
Research Division for Disaster Information and Intelligence aims to maximize efficiency and effectiveness and improve social resilience through proactive disaster management by capturing information on natural hazards and the dynamics and changes of social activities, creating information that encourages decision-making and action, and taking the initiative.
Research Division for Social Resilience
Research Division for Social Resilience aims to scientifically clarify what kind of damage occurs in society as a result of disasters and what kind of recovery process is followed, through collaboration with disaster practices and disaster sites. Based on this understanding, we aim to propose effective disaster management measures, education, and policies.
Center for Digital Transformation and Action Research
Center for Digital Transformation and Action Research will implement “action research” that involves working closely with the sites of disaster resilience and disaster response, and while working together, we will apply and verify research results and discover new research topics. We will also build an industry-government-academia network that will co-create and promote “disaster resilience DX (digital transformation)” by comprehensively handling diverse “knowledge” as information.
