The Purpose of their visit is to learn about Japanese disaster prevention technologies and improve the disaster prevention technologies in Taiwan. Since NIED has an exchange of information about its seismic network with the central institute of Taiwan, NIED has a relationship with Taiwan. We provided four lectures; 1) the Japan seismic networks, 2) the Earthquake Early Warning system which started operation in Japan in 2006, 3) J-SHIS (Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station) and 4) Risk management research. After the lectures we took them for a short tour of the Data Center, which collects seismic data from 1800 seismic stations, and the Large Scale Earthquake Simulator, which was built as the first experimental facility in Tsukuba science city in 1970.
