NIED President, Dr. Hayashi, delivered a keynote speech at GCTF seminar
On March 10th, a seminar of Global Cooperation & Training Framework (GCTF) with the theme of "Building the resilience of nations and communities to disaster“ was held in Taipei by connecting 35 participating countries via the Internet. Dr. HAYASHI Haruo, the president of National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), delivered a keynote speech on the theme ”Disaster resilience is essential to sustainable development.”
This was the first time that disaster risk reduction and disaster resilience became the theme of GCTF.
The seminar was co-hosted by the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, MOFA Taiwan, the American Institute in Taiwan, and the British Office. It has been technically supported by National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) of Taiwan, which NIED has signed a memorandum of cooperation on disaster prevention with. NIED and NCDR will strengthen the collaboration through the subsequent expert meetings.
