NIED contributed to disaster resilience in Dhaka through World Bank-supported webinar
On September 16, NIED participated in an online seminar on disaster risk reduction (DRR), which is contributed to developing disaster risk management and enhancing resilience capacity in RAJUK (Capital Development Authority)” supported by the World Bank in Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Bangladesh. The seminar was attended by members of organizations working on the project, including BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology).
At the beginning, Ms. Ritsuko YAMAZAKI-HONDA, Strategic Planning Department, NIED gave an overview of the organization and its activities, and then Dr. Kentaro TABATA, Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Division gave a lecture on NIED’s earthquake engineering research with large-scale shake table (E-Defense) testing for earthquake disaster mitigation. Dr. Makoto HANASHIMA, Disaster Information Research Division gave a lecture on DRR information platforms, including SIP4D. The project members present at the seminar showed a great interest in both presentations and wished further support.
NIED is strengthening global collaboration, contributing to border crossing DRR activities.
