NIED President, Dr. HAYASHI stressed the importance of cross-boundary synergies in building disaster resilience at GCTF workshop

It was presented by National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) of Taiwan, other related organizations of Japan including NIED, the U.S., Australia and the U.K. This is the second time that GCTF has held a workshop on the theme of disaster resilience; the first being on March 10 this year, the 10th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Dr. Haruo HAYASHI, the president of NIED and other experts presented their research and work for the benefit of the international community.
With a presentation titled of “Building Disaster Resilience by Cross-boundary Synergies of Global Multiple Stakeholder”, Dr. HAYASHI stated that resilience capability could be improved by having a broader perspective for disaster resilience to understand changes in society and in hazards through cross boundary synergies in terms of geography, discipline, and time. He also emphasized the importance of developing Online Synthesis System (OSS) and fostering Facilitators as tools to promote disaster resilience.
He concluded his speech by expressing his hope that an OSS project will be steadily explored in collaboration with GCTF members.
