NIED hosted the Tsukuba Conference 2021 Special Session "Resilience in Tokyo Metropolitan Area"
On 30 September, NIED organized a special session titled "Resilience in Tokyo Metropolitan Area" and highlighted how science and technology have contributed to a more resilient society focusing on the capital region. The session took place in a hybrid manner, at the Wadachi Memorial Hall in NIED and via online. It was a part of the program of Tsukuba Conference 2021, which was held online from 21 to 30 September under the theme of Inclusive Innovation for the New Normal.
Five young researchers engaged in disaster risk reduction and the president of a prominent IT company (location big data), made presentations on their researches, and achievements which demonstrated how they have strengthened disaster resilience with cutting edge technologies.
This was followed by a panel discussion in which each presenter actively exchanged views on how they would like to use the research by other presenters and what issues they would like to address in the future. More than 100 people attended the event and many questions were raised during the Q&A time.
NIED researchers also participated in Tsukuba Conference 2021 Digital Poster session and Special Plenary with Nobel Laureates session.
