National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience
Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc.
I-Resilience Co., Ltd., has embarked to provide new services for disaster resilience as a joint venture between National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) and Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc. (TMHD) .
NIED and TMHD are pleased to announce the establishment of the joint venture which will provide new services for disaster risk reduction (DRR) tailored to the needs of society. The DRR services will integrate DRR-related information and research outcomes produced by NIED as well as various risk data and risk preventive know-how possessed by TMHD.
With the increasing occurrence of natural catastrophes, combined with the growing risk of mega-earthquakes, strengthening disaster resilience has become an even more pressing task. In the context of science and technology innovation, there are high expectations from society for the creation of innovation in DRR through public-private partnerships.
Prior to this joint venture, while recognizing such societal needs, NIED and TMHD concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement in September 2019 to strengthen their efforts in DRR through co-creation. More importantly, the enforcement of the Law on the Revitalization of Science, Technology and Innovation Creation has enabled NIED to fund a business operator, or a venture company launched by the NIED, that utilizes NIED R&D products.
