Official approval for the establishment of IRDR ICoE-Coherence
Dr. Haruo HAYASHI (President of NIED) who is the Chair of IRDR National Committee (NC) Japan received a formal letter dated 18 November 2021 from the representatives of the IRDR Scientific Committee and the IRDR International Programme Office confirming and congratulating the official approval of the establishment of IRDR ICoE Japan.
As reported in the What's new, Preliminary Report dated 25 October, the IRDR Scientific Committee had unanimously approved Japan NC‘s proposal to establish ICoE (International Center of Excellence) under Japan NC at the meeting held on 19 October.
The official name of the new organization is IRDR International Centre of Excellence for Coherence among Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainable Development and its abbreviation is IRDR ICoE-Coherence.
The working body of ICoE-Coherence is Japan Hub of Disaster Resilience Partners (JHoP) in collaboration with NC Japan. JHoP is composed of 15 partners from universities, research institutions including NIED (ICoE Host Institution) and general associations involved in disaster resilience in Japan,
ICoE-Coherence has started working on the expected mission: disaster risk reduction (DRR) research and capacity building, coherence among the Sendai Framework, SDGs, and Paris Agreement, implementation of the New Research Framework and cooperation with other existing ICoEs and DRR partners.
