New Memorandum of Cooperation with GNS, New Zealand
NIED concluded a new memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences Limited (GNS), New Zealand on the 8th of March 2023. Both institutes have already collaborated in past years with common interests in research areas of geohazards including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activities, and landslides. The MOC will strengthen research collaboration and then contribute to enhancing disaster resilience in both countries as well as around the world.
Researchers from both institutes participated in the research workshop, either in person or via online, and presented their research work and possible collaboration by four topics; gehazard monitoring, volcanology, hazard/risk modeling, and risk information for decision making.
The workshop and the signing ceremony were hosted by Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE) after the 4th Japan-New Zealand Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation which supported the exchange of mutually beneficial knowledge and collaborative research programmes.
