Overseas Trainees Visit NIED to Deepen their Understanding of Earthquake Engineering
On November 14, NIED welcomed a total of 10 foreign trainees from the Republic of El Salvador participating in the JICA training for the project entitled “Capacity Development for the Evaluation and Seismic Reinforcement of Buildings in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador”. The trainees were mainly engineers and architects from OPAMSS (Planning Office of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador). They came to learn about the latest earthquake engineering research from NIED, with the goal of gaining the knowledge about the need for earthquake resistance in tall buildings and promoting the resilience of the San Salvador metropolitan area.
The trainees first visited the Large-scale Rainfall Simulator. Afterwards, they received a lecture from Dr. KAWAMATA Yohsuke, Earthquake Disaster Mitigation Research Division, on an overview of E–Defense and the latest research in earthquake engineering and major achievements in shaking-table tests. They attended the lecture with great enthusiasm and asked many questions during the Q&A session.
