Department of Extreme Weather Disaster Research

Department of Extreme Weather Disaster Research studies measures to effectively prevent and mitigate disasters such as extreme heavy rains, floods, landslides, violent winds, heat waves, snowstorms, and cold waves, which occur frequently due to global warming and are increasing in damage and frequency every year.
Research Division for Storm, Flood and Landslide Disasters
Research Division for Storm, Flood and Landslide Disasters is working to improve observation and prediction technologies related to weather, flooding, and sediment disasters by utilizing Severe Storm Observation System and Large-scale Rainfall Simulator.
Snow and Ice Research Center
In order to reduce the risk of snow and ice disasters, Snow and Ice Research Center is working with stakeholders to improve monitoring and forecasting technologies through observation, modeling, and experiments using Cryospheric Environment Simulator.
